A Chinese cloisonné enamel moon flask with dragon and phoenix decoration, Qianlong mark, late 19th–early 20th century
An impressive Chinese cloisonné enamel moon flask, finely decorated with a high-relief dragon pursuing the flaming pearl on one side and a phoenix amidst swirling clouds on the reverse. The turquoise ground is enriched with geometric patterns and stylised characters, while the elegant handles are formed as mythical beasts.
The base bears a Qianlong mark, although the piece was most likely produced during the late Qing dynasty, dating from the late 19th to the early 20th century. Cloisonné enamelling reached an exceptional level of craftsmanship during this period, combining vibrant colours with intricate gilt-bronze details.
