A Chinese ruby-red glazed porcelain bottle vase — 19th century

A Chinese ruby-red glazed porcelain bottle vase — 19th century

This porcelain bottle vase is covered in a rich ruby-red glaze with an even, saturated tone achieved through controlled copper-red firing. A lighter, almost translucent rim at the mouth provides a natural colour transition, while the surface exhibits a fine network of craquelure characteristic of ageing in high-temperature monochrome glazes. The glaze retains clarity and depth, accentuating the rounded body and slender neck of the form.

Bottle vases of this type were valued in the 19th century for their pure silhouette and striking monochrome finish, reflecting the technical refinement required for ruby-red copper glazes.
