A framed Portrait of a Balinese Woman by W. G. Hofker, signed and numbered No. 65 — mid-20th century
A framed Portrait of a Balinese Woman by W. G. Hofker, signed and numbered No. 65 — mid-20th century
A signed and numbered portrait by the Dutch artist W. G. Hofker (1902–1981), depicting a young Balinese woman. Hofker lived and worked in Bali between 1938 and 1944, where the island's people and culture became a lasting source of inspiration throughout his artistic career.
Executed in the mezzotint technique, the print is characterised by subtle tonal transitions and a soft, atmospheric quality that reflects Hofker's refined approach to portraiture. Signed in pencil "W. G. Hofker, Bali" and numbered No. 65.
The reverse still retains the original Dutch information sheet explaining the mezzotint printing technique and providing background on the artist's work in Bali, adding historical context to the piece.
