A large Flambé-Glazed Bottle Vase — Daoguang period (1820–1850)

A large Flambé-Glazed Bottle Vase — Daoguang period (1820–1850)

This impressive bottle-shaped vase is covered in a rich flambé glaze with deep transitions of sapphire blue, violet, and aubergine. The flowing, streaked surface and subtle crackles are characteristic of Qing dynasty flambé ware, produced through a high-temperature reduction firing that encouraged natural, unpredictable colour effects.

Large vases of this type were often appreciated for their sculptural presence and striking glaze, combining refined craftsmanship with the expressive aesthetics of the imperial Jingdezhen kilns
